North American First People's Day

Help us honor the first people who walked the Portage Path.

Every first Monday in October in Akron, Ohio

In 2016 and 2017, the Northern Cheyenne tribe, local schools and the community walked the ancient trail known as the Portage Path. In 2018, students from The Lippman School were introduced to a problem based learning challenge to help the community unite around this historic site and honor the first people who walked the Portage Path. The students presented their solution to both the local city and county council as a resolution. North American First People’s Day is now celebrated on the first Monday in October each year in Summit County, Ohio.
